Going back to basics
It is quite common for successful people to need to go back to basics. Be they athletes or business men or women, and that of course includes Real Estate brokers. It is somewhat like playing golf. At first you learn to hit the ball with the club in order to “have fun”. For many, this turns very quickly into a hyperstress activity with feelings of disappointment, dissatisfaction and self-flagellation. All that because we forgot the basic purpose of the game: to have fun.
Let’s apply this to your Real Estate career. How are you doing in regards to your yearly, quarterly and weekly goals? Do you have any written goals? If we were playing golf, the goal for the year would be a “72”, the goal for the first half of the year would be a “36” and this weeks’ goal would be a “par 3”. Interesting concept don’t you think? If it sounds a little confusing don’t worry about it, even avid golfers get confused with… keeping their eyes on the ball.
Let’s keep our eyes on the ball; what do you have to do this week… specifically? Set your priorities. Your goal is to hit the ball toward the green, not clean your clubs or spend your days on the driving range. Find, identify and qualify a buyer this week, then show him homes and sell. Find, identify and qualify a seller and make a listing presentation. Do it again, and again, and again until you reach the green no matter how many sand traps or trees are in the way. Your goal is to list and sell even if you have to hit 2, 3 or 5 more shots to get there. I have never seen someone on the golf course pick up his ball on the seventh hole and say “that’s no good, I’m going back home”.
Make it to the 18th hole, that’s why you’re here.
Have a great game.
